By March, it is fair to assume that the words ice and flurries make our insides crawl. With the final days of cold weather approaching, we recommend preparing for the sunshine with spring cleaning!
Before you head outside and shove your winter coat in the closet, we believe it is essential to set aside a day for cleaning your space.
Here is a list of spring cleaning tips to refresh your apartment:
Dust Almost Everything
Begin your day with dusting all surfaces and crevices. Use a microfiber cloth to collect dust from light fixtures, appliances and ceiling fans. Then, with the brush attachment on your vacuum, clean the dust on vents, floor corners, windowsills and door frames.
With a store bought or homemade cleaning solution, be sure to thoroughly clean your windows. Tip: For the cleanest shine, dust before washing!
Vacuum and Shampoo Carpet
For synthetic carpeting, you can rent or buy shampoo that works with your particular carpet. Additionally, you can rent a machine that cleans the fibers and removes traces of soap. Wool carpets or rugs will need to be cleaned by a professional.
We recommend first removing all items from your refrigerator. Next, throw away expired or rotten food. Then finish up by cleaning the shelving and stained spots.
Tip: Use warm water and dish washing soap to clean the interior. For challenging stains, we recommend applying baking soda.
Clean Your Computer and TV
Use a microfiber cloth to wipe your screens. Never use a cleaning solution or rough rag that has the potential to damage your devices.
Change Your Winter Bedding
Switch out your heavy winter bedding for spring sheets. If you do not have two different types of sheets, simply store away thicker blankets that will not be used in the upcoming warmer months.
For a better nights sleep, it is essential to flip your mattress. If you have a new mattress, it should be flipped every 3 months or once a season, if that helps you remember.
De-clutter Clothes and Accessories
By cleaning out your closet, you will make your day-to-day life easier and more efficient. Store your heavy winter wear in bins under your bed or in a designated space in your closet. Replace with spring clothing for easier access.
While organizing, establish items that you no longer wear so you can sell or donate them. Throw away clothes/accessories that are no longer wearable.
Clean Medicine Cabinet and Makeup Bag
Throw away expired medicine and makeup products. Then, sanitize the surfaces with cleaning solution. While pitching products, construct a list of items that need to be replaced.
If you live with a roommate, we recommend coordinating with them. Creating a final list together and conquering tasks separately will make for a smoother apartment cleaning.
While the idea of completing this list may seem overwhelming at first, with time, you will find that these spring cleaning tips are attainable. More importantly, through accomplishing these tasks, your home will feel brand new once again.
Good luck and happy spring cleaning!
